What a hardshell chamber actually is

A hardshell chamber is a rigid pressure vessel — steel with polycarbonate viewing panels — that holds its geometry whether it is pressurised or not. It pressurises quickly, holds pressure precisely, and carries a control and safety suite a flexible shell cannot: dual HD control panels, triple relief valves, HD intercom, and a clean-air suite on the intake. Our models run from 1.3 ATA to 2.5 ATA depending on the model, which is the entire reason this class exists.

It is also a piece of capital equipment that arrives on a truck, and that is the part buyers underestimate. The pressure question is easy. The building question is where hardshell purchases go wrong, so this page is mostly about the building.

Why you would choose hardshell

• A protocol names a pressure above 1.5 ATA. This is the clean case. Nothing else in the catalogue reaches it.
• Sessions back to back. Faster pressurisation and depressurisation compounds across a day of appointments. In a commercial setting that is throughput, and throughput is revenue.
• More than one occupant. The Grand Pavilion of Power seats two to four with wheelchair entry.
• It is a business asset. Hardshell equipment holds value better, survives heavy duty cycles, and reads as clinical to a client standing in your room deciding whether to trust you.

What the building has to provide

Plan this before you sign, not after. In order of how often it causes trouble:

Getting it into the room

A crated hardshell will not go through a standard interior door, and it will not go up a residential staircase. Measure the full path — truck to final position — including door widths, turn radius at every corner, hallway width, and any threshold or step. The Grand Pavilion of Power can ship as a two-piece modular install specifically for buildings where the assembled vessel cannot get in. Ask about that early; it changes the freight arrangement.

Delivery itself

This is freight, not parcel. That means a truck that can reach your address, a lift gate or a dock, and someone on site at the delivery window. Our white-glove delivery covers placement rather than leaving a crate at the kerb, and for anything complicated our professional installation service handles it end to end.

Floor and space

Rigid vessels are heavy and the load is concentrated. Ground floor on slab is the straightforward answer. Anything above ground floor is a question for whoever knows the structure, not a question for us. You also need clearance around the vessel for the door swing and for service access, not just the footprint itself.

Power and oxygen

Requirements vary by model and by how the oxygen side is configured — the Grand Vessel of Power Pro ships with two concentrators for 20 LPM total, and two concentrators is a different electrical picture than one. Confirm the circuit for your specific configuration before delivery day rather than assuming an existing outlet will carry it.

If this is a commercial or clinical room

Then code applies, and the relevant framework is NFPA 99 for the room the chamber sits in. We sell an NFPA 99 compliance kit for exactly this, and we would rather you buy it up front than discover the gap during an inspection. Honest limits of a hardshell

• It is effectively permanent. Moving one later is a project, not an afternoon.
• Price. Entry is $33,000 against $9,999 for a softshell. If the pressure you actually need is 1.3 ATA, you are paying a large premium for a ceiling you will not use, and a softshell is the better purchase. We will tell you that on the phone.
• Site prep is real work. Everything in the section above takes time and sometimes a trade.
• Servicing is scheduled, not optional. Seals and valves are maintenance items on a rigid vessel. Our preventative maintenance plan exists because this class needs one.
• Footprint. A hardshell occupies its room permanently. It does not deflate and go in a closet.
