Sweater Weather Room Check: Five Ways to Set Up the Space Around Your Chamber

Posted October 30, 2026·Prestige Hyperbaric

Cooler days mean space heaters, cozy throws, and closed windows. Here is the five-minute seasonal room check our technicians teach every Prestige owner.

Sweater weather is here, and the chamber room deserves a little love too. When the temperature drops, rooms change. Space heaters come out of the closet, throw blankets pile up, the windows stay shut, and holiday decor starts creeping onto every shelf. None of that is a problem on its own. But the room around your chamber is part of the safety system, so this Friday we are walking through the five-minute seasonal room check our technicians teach every Prestige owner.

Illustrative chamber-room b-roll created for this safety guide; it is not footage from a specific customer installation.

1. Give the concentrator room to breathe

Your oxygen concentrator works by pulling in room air, so it needs open space around its intake and exhaust vents. Keep it off carpet piles and away from curtains, and leave the clearance your concentrator’s manual calls for on every side. In colder months it is tempting to tuck equipment into a corner to free up floor space; resist the urge. A concentrator that can breathe easily runs cooler, quieter, and more consistently, session after session. While you are there, check that the intake filter is clean and seated. A quick rinse or swap takes two minutes, and we keep replacement filters on the shelf.

2. Keep heat sources on the far side of the room

Oxygen-rich air and heat sources should never be neighbors. That means space heaters, candles, incense, wax warmers, and decorative string lights stay well away from the chamber, the concentrator, and the oxygen tubing. If the room needs warming, warm the whole space ahead of time with your home’s regular heating, then enjoy the session. The cozy knit throw is great for after the session, on the bench across the room, not inside the chamber. Simple rule: nothing that glows, burns, or gets hot lives near the oxygen.

3. Route the tubing like a pro

Clear oxygen tubing should run flat and relaxed, with no kinks, no pinches under chamber feet or furniture, and no loops across the walkway where someone could catch a foot. Seasonal rearranging is the number one reason tubing ends up in a funny spot, so give it a quick trace from the concentrator to the chamber connection. If you see cloudiness, cracks, or stiffness, set it aside and give us a call. Fresh tubing is inexpensive peace of mind.

4. Keep the walkway open and the room fresh

The path from the door to the chamber entrance should be clear enough to walk without thinking about it. No boxes of decorations, no laundry baskets, no extra chairs. A clear walkway keeps the operator’s attention on the person inside and keeps entries and exits calm and unhurried. And even with the windows closed for the season, keep the room comfortably ventilated so the air stays fresh and the concentrator always has good room air to draw from.

5. Mind the cold-weather wardrobe and skin care

Winter brings fleece, wool blends, heavy moisturizers, and lip balm, and those habits tend to follow people right up to the chamber door. Stick with the cotton-first wardrobe your training covered, and skip oil-based lotions, petroleum-based balms, and hair products before a session. Save the rich moisturizer for afterward. It is a small change that keeps the chamber interior clean and keeps sessions in line with the oxygen safety basics every Prestige owner learns.

For wellness centers running multiple chambers, our NFPA 99 Compliance Kit helps organize written room checklists, logs, and procedures so every operator runs the same seasonal check the same way, every shift.

A quick word on electronics

Seasonal room checks are also a good time to reset the electronics tray outside the chamber. Phones, watches, tablets, and laptops live there before, during, and after every session; Prestige never endorses taking personal electronics into a chamber. Some owners choose installed accessories such as red light, and if you do, that use is at your own risk, and we do not claim any electronics are 100% safe in an oxygen-enriched environment. Read our full electronics disclaimer for the details.

Same team, every season

Every Prestige owner learns room setup hands-on during training, right alongside startup, pressurization, ear-equalization coaching, daily checks, and oxygen safety basics. Our engineers design our own improvements, keep parts on hand in our Holiday, Florida workshop, and pick up the phone when you have a question. Buy from Prestige, get supported by Prestige forever: the same team who built it and installed it stays in your corner long after delivery day, through every season.

Bottom line: a great session starts with a calm room. Let the concentrator breathe, keep heat sources far away, route the tubing clean, keep the path open, and save the heavy lotions for later. Five minutes, once a season, and your chamber room is ready for sweater weather. Educational content only; always follow your chamber’s operating manual and your training.
